! where is there still opportunity? you think you expect new york, atlanta and chicago to rise? you think there is still good opportunities there? >> that's right. of those three, new york, chicago, and atlanta those are interesting markets because they're ones that are still seeing home price depreciation in many parts of those markets and are definitely the laggards of the top 30 metro. those are praises where the home market, the housing market is not yet fully recovered. we still have a lot of foreclosures and a lot of negative equity. they will do quite well. they will do okay in 2013. they will do better after that. all three markets. at least chicago and new york are a little more, have more headwinds and they're in, they have a lot of judicial forechrous sure, processes which means there is a long pipeline of foreclosures. that tends to cloud the markets a little bit. melissa: why are you so positive on atlanta? >> well, atlanta i would say has had a very long housing recession. it has been a little bit of a sleeper in terms of hard hit markets. typically we talk about vegas, phoe

to miguel marquez, he's 60 miles north of atlanta. miguel, we saw the picture here of this tornado. tell me what you're seeing on the ground right now. >> a wide swath of damage through adairsville, it looks like, for the most part. there is a hotel that has been shredded by this storm. there is a plant that makes heavy machinery shredded by this tornado. there are several businesses along the adairsville highway, just off i-75 that have been damaged. there are power lines down throughout the area. trees are down, smashed into cars, trailers overturned, trailers damaged as well. we have seen a couple of neighborhoods where there is fairly significant damage to trailer homes. not clear where that person died, but it is not very far from where i am right now. it is still raining very hard here. the rain has been consistent. it has let up just a little bit. the other thing that is interesting, we left atlanta about 45 minutes ago, maybe an hour ago. the temperature was about 66 degrees there. it has dropped to 58 here. we're getting into the zone where the temperature changes and it is a dange

shot to death. as police rushed toward his school bus in midland, atlanta, they found much worse. this bright yellow rolling sanctuary for a group of elementary school kids had become a horrific crime scene. the armed suspect police would learn had escaped with a 6-year-old boy in his hands, heading to an underground bunker on his property, holding the boy prisoner, eight feet below ground in an earthen cave stocked with supplies that could last weeks. the young witnesses telling authorities it was a raid on their school bus by a mean man determined to take a child hostage. >> he started telling him he needed a kid because of something about the law coming after him. >> reporter: police sources identify the suspect as 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes, a man who has been in trouble with the law before on charges he fired a gun at a neighbor. the boy is on medication and is said to have special needs. >> at this time, we have no reason to believe that the child has been harmed. >> reporter: police have been in contact with the gunman using a pvc pipe to communicate through. and late tod

in a daresville, georgia, outside of atlanta. the news crew captured -- captured the twister. sue palka is in the severe weather center now. what can we expect? >> i think it's going to be a long night. looking for heavy rain and strong winds. we're beginning to see thunderstorm warnings of our own and that is to our south. and let me start with sentinel radar. not much rain in the d.c. area and it's been to the north of us or to the west and it's continuing to move very rapidly from south to north and can you see what is going on around the region right now. i want to let you know we have a new flash flood warnings and starting with the severe thunderstorm warnings that popped up and it affects southwestern orange county and nelson county. those storms are moving east at 45 miles an hour and so we will watch those for heavy winds and a flash flood warning for a couple of areas, including faulkier, loudoun, warren and clark and portions the counties until 9:30. we have seen half rain and what we call training heavy bands of rain. in extreme western montgomery county and through loudoun
